The Value of Dance for God

Through dance, youth have the opportunity to be introduced to and explore many different themes that relate to their faith in a unique way. It is a way to use emotions, heart, creativity, and movements in ways that aren’t possible in simply speaking, singing, or writing, for example.

 

God created every type of art and style of dance, so ALL of these creative talents can be used to glorify God.

Here are some of the main uses of dancing for God:

• As worship and praise to God 

• As a prayer, for themselves and for others

• As a place of intimacy with God

• As an exploration of Biblical truths (ex: application to their lives)

• As an expression of personal encounters and processes with God

• As an instrument to tell others about Jesus and share their testimony

• As a way to strengthen and steward our physical bodies, which have worth as being temples of the Holy Spirit

• As a way to grow as a community, of believers and/or non-believers

 

Our bodies were made good and holy by design by our Lord. Although many have seen how the world (the devil) has a history of twisting and distorting its use for unholy practices, we recognize how that wasn't ever God's intention.

God wishes to redeem this also for His glory.

While singing is an auditory version of praise, and writing poems is a written form of praise, dancing is a visual version in which we can embody that praise totally in movement, loving God with "all our heart, soul, mind, & strength" (Mark 12:30).

Dance is not an end to itself. Rather, it has a deeper value that God wishes to empower His people with. It is a powerful instrument for us to know, worship, and glorify the Lord.​
