Evangelism Through Dancer Discipleship
Many people tend to wonder... How can you use dance to share the Gospel message?
Well, this discipline is actually so versatile that it allows for the Holy Spirit to work in a number of ways!
1. Relationships
Discipleship is based upon relationship-building. It was Jesus' model for us to be inviting and people-oriented as we share about the kingdom of God!

BOLDM seeks to form a "family" feeling among the group -- hence why we use the term "Crew" and not "Academy". Our focus is to have long-term relationships with those who join us we may go deeper into conversations about Jesus and form healthy connections with one another. It opens up opportunities to have times of fellowship beyond the dance in itself, such as taking field trips or having small groups. We emphasize how each individual has something important to offer to the rest of the group, whether teacher or student.

BOLDM is unique in this way because it's not a "performance-focused" ministry, where you come one time and leave. It is an ongoing investment into these specific youth -- filled with prayer, fellowship, and fun.
2. Reflections in Bible Studies & Choreographies
Included in every dance class and workshop we give is a short Biblical reflection we feel God has put on our heart to share for that encounter. It is a time of learning and an opportunity to open class inviting God into the space.

On top of that, every song that we use to train and dance to is an opportunity to minister to the youth through the words expressed. When we make choreographies, it is a wonderful chance to literally embody a message that can minister to them, and the people they will present it to. It may talk about God's strength in our weakness, a prayer or praise to God, or any other relatable topic the dancers can connect to. We never underestimate the power of God to minister in these artistic ways -- ways that other practices (ex: sports) don't have that facade to work with.

Finally, a key aspect of Breath of Life is for our participants to be invited to be that "breath of life" (encouragement & comfort) to those around them! They are not only ministered to, but empowered to minister to others; they join us in outreaches and the Great Commission. It's a butterfly effect of sharing the love and hope found in Jesus to all walking thorugh the dark valleys of life.

3. Holistic Redemption
Although it's clear that our focus is teaching quality dance technique to our dancers, which can be beneficial for them in the 'now' and can open up many doors for their futures, we never forget to consider the "whole person" in our programs. Our hope is for them to receive the "spiritual food" from the Lord, but it doesn't just end there.

We recognize that at-risk youth have a special context that must be addressed specifically according to their needs and backgrounds. In the past, some youth have come without eating anything that day, so we always work to bring some type of snack or refreshment to our classes each week. Some have delicate situations in their homes we must be sensitive to. Others have sadly experienced or been exposed to forms of abuse. There are many areas that need Jesus' healing hand over it in this world.

BOLDM staff are trained to have these contexts in mind and know how to correctly handle these tough situations in our actions and words, all so we can best serve these youth as Jesus would. Practicing dance has been proven to help individuals reconcile themselves with their bodies and learn healthy teamwork, among other benefits. We are constantly asking the Lord what other supplements to our ministry could serve our dancers in the future (ex: small groups, English classes, homework help, practical support, etc.) so they can advance in God's victories in every area of their lives!
He desires a full redemption in our households, relationships, communities, and self-care, and so should we!
That's the full extent of the Gospel message Jesus came to proclaim (Isaiah 61).
We do not expect every youth who participates in our programs to be Christian, but we do hold these values as the core of our ministry.
We hope to be a bridge for them to know Christ in a personal way, so they may later connect with a local church community and keep growing in their relationship with God!
